I have the hard task to inform you that our dear friend, coach and volunteer, Paola Poggio, passed away on the 3rd February 2022.
You will all remember her energy at our Sports Marathon on the 20th November 2021, and who was to know that a few weeks later she would take so ill. All of you will remember her for her lovely smile, her kindness and her enjoyment at our games. How she encouraged you all to progress. As a
Committee member, Paola was very active and always
brought good discussions to the table. She was a keen member though it took me years to get her to form part of the Executive. Paola had been a friend of Special Olympics for over 30 years. Paola and her husband Edwin were keen volunteers at SOG national games when swimming events were held at the Nuffield pool. That’s how long ago the Poggios were Volunteers of SOG.

On a personal basis Paola has been a very good friend, in my good times and bad times. Always there. Life will not be the same without her.
Athletes, and their families join me, the Chairman and Committee of SOG to send a message to her Mother, her husband Edwin, sons Alexis and Anton, her grandchildren Valentino, Nova and her extended family, that we were blessed to have had her on our team. She will be sorely missed and definitely will not be forgotten.
Rest In Peace dear Paola

Annie M. Risso MBE President/ CEO SOG.
